If the battery indicator icon is missing on your Windows 10 laptop, in most cases, it will not take long to fix the situation. It doesn't matter why the battery icon on the laptop disappeared. In any case, do not panic, just consider our simple instructions, and restore the necessary functionality in a few clicks.

In this manual, we provide you with simple methods to fix the battery icon on the Windows 10 notification area.

The First Method: Enable the Battery Icon in the Settings

Let's start with a simple check on Windows 10 settings to enable or disable the battery icon.

  • Right-click anywhere in the empty area and select Taskbar settings;

  • Check the Notification Area section, and verify two items: "Icons displayed in the taskbar" and "Turn on or off system icons";

  • Turn on the "Power" icon in both of these items.

We also recommend you to completely enable the "Always display all the icons in the notification area" option so that the battery indicator does not hide behind the arrow icon.

If everything worked well, and the reason for the lack of an icon was in the settings, the battery indicator will appear in the notification area.

If this didn't help, you could try one of the following methods.

Method 2: Restart the File Explorer

Try restarting Windows 10 File Explorer. This will make your laptop restart the entire system interface, and if the battery icon disappears due to a driver failure (which is not uncommon), it will reappear.

  • Right-click on the Start button and select the desired context menu item;

  • In the task manager, find the file explorer, select it and click "Restart".

Check if this fixed the problem. If this time there is no result, we still have two more methods to try.

Method 3: Adapter Reset

It is possible that a bug in the driver of the power adapter led to the disappearance of the icon on the taskbar, and you can no longer view the battery status of your computer. In this case, an elementary reset of the adapter may help.

  • Press Win + R and enter devmgmt.msc. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, allow the changes;

  • In the list of devices, find the Batteries item and open it.

There must be at least two items in the Battery branch (AC Adapter and Battery with ACPI-compatible control).

  • Right-click on the AC Adapter and select Uninstall Device. Confirm your action;

  • Click the Action button at the top of the window and select Update equipment configuration from the drop-down menu;

  • In the exact same way, select the Microsoft ACPI-compatible Battery and click 'Remove Device';

  • Click 'Update device configuration'.

After that, the status indicator of your battery should appear on the taskbar.

If this method also did not help, you can try updating the BIOS. Go to the manufacturer's website and check if there are new BIOS versions on it, and then follow the instructions.

Method 4: Fix the Notification Panel Settings

The disappearance of the battery icon from the taskbar of your computer may be due to the fact that the indicator is simply hidden or turned off in the Windows settings. Even if you didn't turn it off, an elementary bug in the system could lead to the battery disappearing somewhere from its place. Fortunately, returning it back is not difficult.

  • Press Win + I and select the Taskbar section;

  • Scroll down the list and find the 'Turn on and turn off system icons' link. Click on it, and a list of all the icons that can be turned on or off in the notification area (in the lower right corner of the screen) will appear on the screen;

  • Find the 'Battery' item and make sure it is turned on. If not, then it must be turned on;

  • Go back one step and click 'Select the icons displayed in the taskbar';

  • Make sure that 'Battery' is turned on.

If the battery icon disappears due to simply disabling its display, this procedure should solve your problem. If not, then try another simple method:

  1. Open Task Manager and on the Processes tab find the File Explorer;

  2. Click on it and then click on the Restart button in the right corner.

This action will restart the whole Windows system. It is possible that the battery icon did not appear due to a bug that can be cured by simply restarting the File Explorer.
